Job Description

At Bristol Myers Squibb, we are inspired by a single vision – transforming patients’ lives through science. In oncology, hematology, immunology and cardiovascular disease – and one of the most diverse and promising pipelines in the industry – each of our passionate colleagues contribute to innovations that drive meaningful change. We bring a human touch to every treatment we pioneer. Join us and make a difference.

The Discovery Biotherapeutics group in Redwood City, California (DBR) is focused on discovering and developing novel biotherapeutic drugs. Our mission is to design and develop biological tools and processes to enable the latest advances in biotherapeutics, and to create the next generation of drugs to support early discovery efforts. We work in cross-functional teams to understand the key scientific questions and critical needs within the discovery pipeline and support ongoing research in various disease indications throughout BMS.

The DBR group is highly committed to supporting local STEM initiatives that expose individuals from all backgrounds to careers in scientific disciplines. To further this cause, our research site is thrilled to introduce the Summer Internship Program for the summer of 2021. This is a great opportunity to gain exposure to diverse areas of the drug discovery process and have a hand in bringing novel therapeutics to cancer patients. We highly encourage students from all backgrounds to join our diverse team next summer. We are seeking highly motivated individuals with at least 2 years of study towards a bachelor’s degree from accredited Bay Area Colleges and Universities to participate in a 10 week, full-time paid summer research program. The interns will have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to programs within the drug discovery pipeline at BMS.

The interns will work directly with a discovery program lead and a technical advisor to complete a defined project over the course of the 10 week program. Students will benefit from the state-of-the art laboratories at our Redwood City research site, and gain critical knowledge of techniques necessary for core areas of biotherapeutic development, including: antibody platform development, antibody generation / validation, antibody engineering, and analysis of antibody drug candidates in the early stage drug discovery pipeline. The intern will have the opportunity to participate in departmental and project team meetings and interact with individuals with a range of scientific and pharmaceutical professional backgrounds. The internship will conclude with a formal symposium where the student will have the opportunity present their findings to the larger research site.

Core Program Aspects
