Job Description
Who You Will Work With
Want to tell stories that reach across the globe? Ready to join a world-class newsroom of A+ writers, editors, and content creators? Join Cisco’s CEO & Employee Communications Team and help us power an expansive future for all.
In Employee Communications, we connect employees with Cisco’s purpose, principles, and technology through authentic, clear, and human-centered storytelling. The team is made up of communication and events specialists who are passionate about our company and our people.
We host events and forums to engage and uplift our teams. We innovate ways for them to share their voices. We listen to our employees (all 75,000 of them) And pinpoint how to keep everyone felt in the know — and connected to one another.
And if you can’t tell, we love what we do.
What You Will Do
You’ll join our global newsroom team as a communications specialist, developing compelling stories that help our employees connect the dots within our business — and among our teams. You’ll explore Cisco’s purpose, mission, and principles while reporting on a wide array of topics, including business and technology, people and culture, and innovation. Working closely with our partners from around the world, you’ll craft entertaining content that keeps folks coming back for more.
You’ll work to deeply understand what our employees are looking for and how best to share it. You’ll become a specialist on positioning a single message to multiple audiences — from individuals to people-leaders to executives — across many functions including engineering, sales, services, legal, finance, operations, HR, and marketing.
And you’ll approach everything you do with curiosity and creativity.
In this position, you will:
- Focus on global, inclusive, and accessible storytelling
- Pitch, report, and build stories and content for the Cisco Employee Connection, our company intranet
- Collaborate with your fellow content creators and event managers to brainstorm new ideas and plan special projects
- Track and analyze outcomes and feedback — and dream up countermeasures for improvement
Who You Are
You’re a storyteller. You’re a writer (even if you don’t always call yourself that). You are passionate about digital media — and you’ve got the browser tabs and apps open to prove it. You love to meet new people and you have a different way of looking at things.
You think the way Cisco’s technology keeps the world connected is fascinating — and you want to help others feel fascinated, too. You talk about complex topics so simply even your grandparents can understand it. You’re passionate about crafting a better, more inclusive world. And you’re curious — about people, their experiences, and their ideas.
You have 1-3 years of experience with:
- Working independently, accurately, and quickly on deadline
- Collaborating with writers, creatives, and stakeholders/clients
- Digital communication channels, including email marketing and social media (graphics and video a plus)
- Content management systems
- Communicating through simple, clear, and actionable language
- Readability tools such as Flesch-Kincaid, Grammarly, Hemingway
- Metrics and analytics tools, i.e., Domo
- Working on projects and across virtual teams
You’ll be successful if you:
- Start by understanding our purpose, mission, commitment, and principles
- Always seek to make content shine
- Tell stories with passion and write simply
- Are infatuated with words
- Are mindful, engaging, and creative
- Appreciate and deliver constructive criticism
- Love finding creative solutions to every problem
- Are flexible and adaptable — it’s our culture
- Use data to make good decisions and recommendations to make adjustments
- Are an ambassador who recruits others to represent Cisco as one of the “Best Places to Work”
Why Cisco
#WeAreCisco, where each person is unique, but we bring our talents to work as a team and make a difference powering an inclusive future for all.
We embrace digital, and help our customers implement change in their digital businesses. Some may think we’re “old” (36 years strong) and only about hardware, but we’re also a software company. And a security company. We even invented an intuitive network that adapts, predicts, learns and protects. No other company can do what we do – you can’t put us in a box!
But “Digital Transformation” is an empty buzz phrase without a culture that allows for innovation, creativity, and yes, even failure (if you learn from it.)
Day to day, we focus on the give and take. We give our best, give our egos a break, and give of ourselves (because giving back is built into our DNA.) We take accountability, bold steps, and take difference to heart. Because without diversity of thought and a dedication to equality for all, there is no moving forward.
So, you have colorful hair? Don’t care. Tattoos? Show off your ink. Like polka dots? That’s cool. Pop culture geek? Many of us are. Passion for technology and world changing? Be you, with us!
